Course Description and Purpose:

One of the most important issues in the field of Management is the organization and administration of social services. The particularities and the social character of the services that produce public goods, vary the operation of these bodies in relation to their implementation.

Course outline:

How the basic principles of Management apply to social services and social policy of the state in general? What is strategic planning and how it helps in the efficient functioning of an organization? How are relevantdecisions taken? How the organization and functioning of public administrationis described in our country in general and to what extent has affected the effective operation of management in social services? What is human resources management and how we can ensure that the correct implementation will lead us to achieve the objectives of a social organization? In this context is it important to have effective leadership and rational coordination of different teams in order to manage any changes and reforms are needed? How can we describe the development of control and quality systems in the Public Sector and Social Services?

In order to achieve this,the following concepts will be approached: organization, management, administration, government, state, private, decision making (problem finding>edit>instrument), Project (time determination, objectives achievement, bound) and Organization (duration, continuity, permanence), Objectives grouping: qualitative, quantitative, cost-benefit, public interest, Management by objectives, management by delegation / human resources management, interface and award objectives, schedules and Gannt technique, planning activities and expected results tables, activities control and expected results tables, public control, public accountability.

Learning objectives:

The course aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge needed to understand the dynamics presented in the organization and administration of social services. Emphasis is given to the above questions as well asthe relation betweenthebody exercising (‘public’ or ‘social’) administration andthe served population and the service that works with reference to the various models and dimensions of this relationship.

Assessment:

Writing exams.We will examine the possibility and potential of non-exculpatory assignmentthat will contribute to the final grade “under a successful test in class (5-Five)” by the 1/3 of the grade of the assignment.
